About Martin Hurls

Handmade in Antrim. Built on trust, tradition and hard work.

Martin Hurls was founded by Emmet Martin in 2012 with one simple goal — to make quality hurls that players can trust.

What started as a passion for hurling and the craft of hurley making has grown into a proud business based in Randalstown, Co. Antrim, built on hard work, honest service, and real pride in every product that leaves the workshop.

From the very beginning, the focus has been on doing things properly. Making hurls with care. Looking after customers properly. Building a business with strong roots in the game and in traditional craftsmanship.

Today, Martin Hurls is known for handmade hurls, personalised gifts, and custom keepsakes, serving customers across Ireland and abroad.

Our Story

Martin Hurls began in 2012, when Emmet Martin turned a real love for hurling and woodwork into something more serious.

What started small soon became much more than a hobby. Emmet had a clear belief from early on — a player should be able to pick up a hurl and trust it. Not just in how it looks, but in how it feels, how it is made, and the care behind it.

That belief became the foundation of Martin Hurls.

Over the years, the business has continued to grow through consistency, resilience, and a willingness to keep improving. There have been proud moments and big milestones along the way — from early national recognition on RTÉ Junior Dragon’s Den in 2014, to exporting to America, to adapting during the pandemic with lockdown isolation packs, to becoming a full-time limited company in 2021.

In 2023, Emmet’s father Colum joined the team, making Martin Hurls even more of a family-run business and adding another trusted pair of hands in the workshop.

By 2025, Martin Hurls had gone on to complete a major Croke Park order, team up with AEL, make a special hurl for Benson Boone, and create a medal box for Stephen Cluxton — all personal highlights that reflect how far the business has come from its early beginnings.

Why We Started

Martin Hurls was built on one clear idea:

a player should be able to trust their hurl.

That means more than simply making something that looks well.

It means care in the timber.

Care in the shaping.

Care in the finishing.

Care in the details.

And care in how every customer is treated.

The aim has always been to offer something genuine — a hurl made by people who understand the game, respect the tradition behind it, and take pride in doing the job right.

What We Stand For

Craftsmanship

Every hurl and product is made with care, attention to detail, and pride in the finished result.

Trust

Trust is at the heart of everything we do — from the quality of the product to the service behind it.

Family

Martin Hurls is a family-run business, built on strong values, loyalty, and a shared pride in the work.

Tradition

The business is rooted in the tradition of hurling and in the skill of making products properly, by hand and with purpose.

Alongside playing sticks, Martin Hurls creates a range of personalised gifts, keepsakes, and custom products that celebrate hurling, Irish identity, and meaningful moments in sport.

That wider side of the business has led to some memorable projects over the years and continues to be an important part of what Martin Hurls stands for — quality products, made with care, and built to mean something.

A Family-Run Business in Randalstown

Whether someone is buying their first hurl, upgrading to a premium model, ordering a personalised gift, or calling to the workshop, the aim stays the same:

make it properly, and treat the customer right.

That simple approach has helped Martin Hurls grow through word of mouth, repeat custom, and trust built over time.

Looking Ahead

Martin Hurls continues to grow with the same values it started with — quality, honesty, hard work, and pride in the craft.

The goal is to keep building a trusted brand for players and customers everywhere, while staying proud of where it all began: a workshop in Antrim, a love of the game, and a determination to make every product properly.
